Amyl is a drag artist who made waves on RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under, season three. Known for her bold looks and infectious energy, she embodies the spirit of creativity and fun in every aspect of her artistry.

Do you remember your first Mardi Gras experience?

"I do remember my first Mardi Gras experience. I marched in the parade and stepped into the marshalling area, surrounded by glitter, rainbows, and very shirtless men. It was all very exciting for someone who hadn’t been very involved in the past. I had the best time in the parade and the after-party. I had some other fabulous times that I won’t be revealing, but it was really special, and I knew that I had found the right place and the right community."

What is your favourite Mardi Gras memory?

"Every year brings new experiences that I love, but the one I value most is that Mardi Gras was one of the first times I ever did drag. It really allowed me to feel a bit more free."

What event are you looking forward to in 2025?

"I am looking forward to Sissy Ball. I always have a gorgeous time there. Everyone is so fierce and gorgeous. It’s a fabulous event, and I’m really excited for it."

What does Free to be mean to you?

"Mardi Gras famously started as a protest, and over the years, we’ve seen huge wins in LGBTQIA+rights and queer rights. I think we are still on that journey, and this is a really important part of it—another chance for us to take a step towards progress and freedom."
