Do you remember your first Mardi Gras experience?

"Absolutely! As a kid, I watched the parade on TV and thought, 'This is the coolest thing EVER!' Mardi Gras is my favourite time of year; the city comes alive in a way it doesn’t at any other time. You’re welcome, straight people!"

What is your favourite Mardi Gras memory?

"Being in the parade with Girl Thing was unforgettable! Everyone says it’s amazing, but you don’t really get it until you experience it. I was asked last minute, just a couple of days before, and I was like, 'Yeah, I’m so down, I’m honoured!' I had no idea about the energy. Th etheme was Grecian Goddess, and everyone wore white and gold—I showed up in a pink bodysuit from Priscilla’s! I’ve only been in the parade once, but it’s so epic; you only truly understand if you've been in it"

What event are you looking forward to in 2025?

"Ultra Violet is also so cool, with an incredible venue. And OBVIOUSLY, Sissy Ball!"

What does Free to Be mean to you?

"It’s challenging, right? The one thing that unites every queer person is this sense of otherness—always feeling left out or like the black sheep. Then you find your chosen family, and you realize, 'OMG, things are going to be okay!"
