Meet Rocky and King

Say hello to Rocky and King, two icons lighting up the ballroom scene! Rocky is a talented DJ and commentator from the House of Silky, while King is a creative powerhouse and rising DJ and fashion designer. Both are excited to be part of the 2025 Mardi Gras campaign, proudly representing the Sydney Ballroom community.

Do you remember your first Mardi Gras experience?

Rocky: “My first ever Mardi Gras experience was actually about 10 years ago, and I had just moved here from Brisbane. I was exploring my queer identity and I was able to meet this beautiful and amazing human being, their name is Dusty, and they introduced me to the world of Mardi Gras by bringing me in as a volunteer and the rest is history.”

King: “My first ever Mardi Gras experience was 2020, it was about a week before the whole world shut down due to Covid, and it was really cool. I was starting to understand myself as a queer person and just being in a space with a lot of other people-some people who didn’t understand and some people who did-and it was just cool. And Dykes on Bikes was just wild to me, I thought it was the coolest thing ever.”

What is your favourite Mardi Gras Memory?

Rocky: “I have so many, but having the opportunity to be part of Sissy Ball on a production level and assisting with that side of things was probably my favourite. And just seeing Mardi Gras growing into what it is today with more inclusive events.”

King: “My favourite memory would be the first Sissy Ball I attended, for sure! That was the day that I told my best friend ‘I’m gonna do this one day’ and she is always like ‘Do you remember that one Sissy Ball that you said you would do this one day?’. And here I am doing it, it is one day!”
