Since the first Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978 our communities have been one of the only pride gatherings in the world to never stop marching – through the AIDS crisis, COVID pandemic, political attacks, rain, hail and shine we have taken to the streets each year.
Although we’ve made great strides in our fight for true equality, we’ve seen that these strides are fragile – and the need for safe, celebratory spaces for unapologetic visibility is as vital as it’s ever been.
