Mardi Gras, our events and your health

Mardi Gras recognises that the recent bushfires, extreme rain and the coronavirus may be of concern to our community. All Mardi Gras events are proceeding as planned and we look forward to you joining us across the 17 days of our Festival.
Bushfires and Air Quality

The recent rain has significantly assisted with the reduction of fire activity across areas of NSW. Mardi Gras continues to monitor updates from the RFS and is regularly reviewing the NSW Government’s Air Quality Index (AQI), This index indicates how clean or polluted the air is in areas across NSW. Your can view the Air Quality Index here.

We recommend all guests who have existing respiratory issues/illnesses ensure they bring any asthma puffers or medication, and consult their doctor for any specific concerns.

Coronavirus

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some cause illness in humans, and others cause illness in animals, such as bats, camels, and civets. Human coronaviruses generally cause mild illness, such as the common cold. NSW Health have implemented a range of measures to promptly identify cases of novel coronavirus and prevent transmission.

The best way to protect yourself is the same as you would against any respiratory infection. Practice good hygiene by:

Making sure to clean your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub
Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or a flexed elbow
Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
Make sure you stay home if you are sick.
Consult your doctor if you have further concerns

Mardi Gras events will proceed in all weather conditions, please check the weather conditions on the day and prepare accordingly.

For our outdoor events bring your water bottle to stay hydrated. We recommend bringing your hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to keep you, your friends or family protected from the sun. It’s important to stay sun smart and beat the heat. NSW Health has prepared some helpful tips on how to stay healthy in the hot temperatures.

Whilst unlikely, should our events be delayed or cancelled due to severe weather conditions, announcements and notifications will be made via our social media updates. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates and information.
